So the FR-2 isn't ready to roll with something
like this Hitachi 1/8" PCMCIA drive?

I see there's fine print in the fostex pdf, "May
require software update for PCMCIA HD operation."

At $160 for 5GB that slips into a laptop is much
easier/cheaper than $200 for 1GB compactflash
drive. Maybe the campactflash drive is necessary
for folks without PCMCIA slots. I must be
missing something.

Lang , Good question about noise. There's so
little mass in these drives, don't you imagine it
would be very hi hz and pretty easy to absorb?=A0

Michael, Its mac OSX 10.2+ compatible. Even if
its usb 2.0 (I hope it is) one can buy a USB 2.0
card for PCI for 12 bucks with shipping.

Fostex really did their homework, there are
several, really flexible features. If the mic
pres are as "top quality" as they suggest, the
722 may have a tough contestant. Can anyone
determine what record level they're saying
produces 87dB s/n on the FR-2 mic pre? If that's
full or near full gain, it would be very close,
perhaps a tad noisier than the MP-2 which I've
seen computed to ~4dB(A) self noise or ~90dB s/n.
Just computations though. Rob D.
