Short answer: the quality of the analog section and the accuracy of the
digital one.
Long answer: better preamps will accept a wider range of microphone
impedances with lower distortion, with have lower self noise, and handle DC
offsets. Digital stages are more linear, with better timing clocks, and wil=
l
add appropriate dither on the smallest bit to mask quantization noise.
