It is worth looking on Bazza's Bazzar (http://www.bblist.co.uk/) for
used kit - I've bought a lot of mine from him without any problems.

Indeed. However, the vast majority of mics are unusable outside without

a decent windshield, and the foam jobbies certainly aren't decent
windshields.

I've just had to bite the bullet and buy a Rycote ball gag and dog for
my AT822 (100ukp!!!). The slightest breeze would induce unacceptable
wind noise - now I can be in a strong gale (like I was last week)
without the slightest hint of mic buffeting.

One would have thought that at least 50% of mics that aren't obviously
studio only types would have a decent windshield bought for them, and as

Rycote are the only suppliers of decent windshields, volume sales would
result in reasonable prices for these low-tech devices, but sadly I'm
wrong.
