Syd - I just did a second test on a 4X5 negative.

I photographed the negative at 1/125 of a second HAND HELD.

When viewed at 12 inches an 8 X 10 digital print and the original 8 X 10
photographic print were indistinguishable. When viewed very close, a very
slight difference in sharpness can be seen.

If I had taken the digital photograph using a tripod the image would of been
slightly sharper.

Also the tonal quality, which is very important, was indistinguishable.

With the camera on a tripod and a single negative set in a light box I could
photograph about one every 15 seconds or 240 per hour.

The camera used was an Olympus E-10, which is a 4 megapixil camera.

My best,

Jim Morgan
