Maybe with test signals...but how about a field recording or a string
quartet?

Hi,
This suprises me, I always assumed hearing differences of 1 dB is
very normal. At least, to me it is when I use (my own) testsignals
and a very good pair of headphones that I am very familiar with:
Sennheiser HD580.
