Since the solvent from the pen evaporates nearly immediately, it seems
like more rumor than truth.

I use a industrial grade sharpie, oldest CD's with this marking on them
are at least 4 years old with no sign whatsoever of any damage from the pen=
.

I've not seen any info on archival labelling.
