Or of being struck by lightning.  Clint Eastwood, where are you? (see below. He could teach that Council a thing or two.) Incidentally after the below message Sandra Henderson advised that the blast-resistant non-hides can be found in several places around the Riverina.

One of the "justifications" by Council for this restriction was apparently "a high risk of drowning or being stuck in deep mud" which is of course complete bull.

The more letters the Council gets explaining how this action will impact negatively on tourism to the town the better.

I have got a later message "Would be great if you could email Lachlan Shire council with your feelings about the restrictions.

I intend to let the Council know my views. Perhaps others could as well.

As expected the response was that it was red tape from the Council - presumably their lawyers.

I have sent a message to the Lake Cargelligo Birds FB group asking who has done this and why?  It marks a major change in attitude by the town - they used to recognise the importance of bird tourism to their economy.

Hi All,

I have not long got back from a road trip and saw some great birds, But it was disappointing to find out that the only access now to the LC treatment ponds is to the useless hide, the tracks either side have a sign stating no entry :(

I have since found out that we are not allowed on the fire trails on round hill, Whohey Tanks and Old Wheat Paddock for example, just the main roads.

Looks like LC is off my places to go from now on.
