My first Dollarbird for the season

Hi Harvey,

 

Some years ago I met a woman at Hawker who told me that a pair of Dollarbirds returned to the same small park to breed in the same tree every November and left every February.

 

I recorded them there at the time but admit that while I live close I keep meaning to check if they are still returning but haven’t. Perhaps this year.

My post was really more about site fidelity and regularity (rather than first Dollarbird of the season). Does anyone else have any circumstantial evidence of a pair returning each year and the degree of precision of the timing of returns?

Right on time. Previous years (over past 12 years) have been as early as 12 October and as late as 2 November (but of course that is when I first recorded them, not necessarily when they actually arrived back).
