To me, the interest in bird watching is the learning things but the aesthetic of the enjoyment is often about “being in the moment”. Whether “being in the moment” is enhanced by capturing the moment on a device, is a curious point. That is quite apart from the benefits of having the photo for the sake of demonstrating what was there. Sort of like being at a great music concert or being at home watching one that you weren’t at, years later, on your TV. They are different experiences.
