Muscovy ducks do mate with other ducks, but the resulting offspring are sterile - like the offspring of horses and donkeys are mules. Muscovies have not been bred into varieties other than colour. All Muscovy ducks are the same size and shape.
All other domestic ducks are Mallards. The male hybrid ducks on West Belconnen Pond are very much Mallard in colour and shape, the females look like pale Pacific black ducks. Next season i intend to watch more closely at which dicks pair up as it is not
clear where the hybrids originated.
