I can hear people groan at the above heading.  Terrific work Julian.  I'll
give your list the attention it deserves.

I confess to a twinge of irritation at the re-raising of this matter with
the quite false suggestion that there had been past agreement that acronyms
were to be avoided unless the relevant expression was spelt in full in the
same message.  Short memories.

To see why I am the aggrieved party, go to the archive and read the messages
in only last August.  You'll find them listed under titles such as 'Acronyms
enough already'.  Yes, I know, I know.  Beyond that I have retrieved my
below message from DECEMBER 2003 (!).  This is pre-archive and I had to
investigate the bowels of the PC before last to find it.  Some attempts at
helpful suggestions there Julian.

It goes back even earlier.  At an earlier time, rather than say something
some might find in poor taste, I absented myself from this chatline for a
year or so, because of an unfortunate tendency of some people (hardly
masters of prose, or of anything else really) to tell others how they should
draft their messages.
