I took my 5 year old grandson, Finn Austin, to see the Powerful Owl this afternoon. He was so excited he could hardly speak. The birding trip had started well with the sighting of 2 pairs of Australasian Shelducks in Bungendore. He could seem them with the naked eye and check the book and work out the males and females. At the ANBG we were directed to the PO by a bird photographer, Don. We may not have seen it without his help. The bird was about 30m NE of where I had seen it before on its so called lower perch. Don didn't seem to mind chatting about birds with a 5 year old with a spike hairdo. Finn then spent an enjoyable hour looking at birds and plants. He was fascinated that the gardeners had been able to grow so many plants out of their natural areas. Julienne
