Maybe this is getting dull, although
I still enjoy seeing it each time. The White-fronted Honeyeater is still in Kambah. 23 days
straight, so far. Same behaviour as before. It is quite a sprightly and
nice looking little bird. Still your best chance to see one without
travelling a long way. Apart from on 8 July, the longest I've had to
wait was about 15 minutes, but usually less than 5. I believe it spends
about 60% of its time at the front of my place (and adjoining
neighbour's front yard), 30% of its time at the Pieris at the other end
of Hiles place and 10% in between or elsewhere. Looking at it in the
Pieris is a little less satisfying and not possible for the
altitudinally challenged people because you need to see over a tall
fence. Directions to that are: take the left (east) side of
Hiles Place, towards the park, walk up the pathway on the right that
leads towards Boddington Cres. In the back yard of the first house on
the left (behind the tall fence is a Pieris tree full of small bell
shaped flowers, it is between a palm and a washing line. The bird feeds
in there. It is a bit intrusive, though, looking over the fence, though
I have talked to the neighbours about the bird. They have a boxer dog
that I did not feel like intoducing myself to untill the people came
out to meet me. Directions to my place as before.
I don't intend to reserve set times
for visitors this weekend (and I will be out middle of Saturday) but if
anyone wants my assistance over the weekend, call me or visit or just
try your luck.
I had a listen to the recordings of
calls of White-fronted Honeyeater on the BOCA tape today. All very
different to the calls this bird makes. That tape includes lots of song
phrases and this bird is not singing at all. Just the "toc" and the
"shirp sweep" calls.
