It seems to me that matters to do with local conservation, amenity of the
lake, tourism not directly related to national monuments, etc should be
matters for the citizens of the ACT (though our government), not a body
responsible to an external government that is not responsible to us (or only
in a small way through our small number of local members). Even if the area
is formally NCA responsibility, they should be delegating this to the ACT
govt. The Australian government should no more be involved in these issues
here than it would be on, say, NSW Central Coast lakes - where they might
intervene on environment issues of national significance, or give grants for
initiatives for tourism, conservation or local amenity, but whether or not
waterskiing occurs on a particular lake or stretch would be a matter for the
local government, surely. . . having a national minister with a person
passion imposing on us seems bizarre (reminds me of certain dictators with
their little whims). Or do I have the wrong end of the stick . . .
cheers
Barbara
PS a few YFHEs in good voice in our trees yesterday (have not been out much
today) .
