HI David,

I bought a pair of those Pentax binos in 2000 for $900. I purchased them
mainly for the waterproofing qualities. However, I have just been to the
sub-Antarctic and they got salt water on them, Despite rinsing them in
plain water, they seized up within a couple of days so that I can no longer
adjust them to a narrower or wider eye width - the focus is still okay.
Luckily they are seized to the width that suits me but I wonder what could
have happened to them. Apparently those new Zeiss are "only" about $1000
and are very light, ideal for ladies and designed to meet the medium price
range of the market.

I have been quite happy with the Pentax although they are a little heavier
than my previous Optyloths.
But I'm keeping the Zeiss in mind if I decide I will have to get a new pair
sometime.
