Thanks for everyones responses. Same story, different places - weeds are
good habitat if they're dense, and the little birds disappear if the weeds
or shrubs are tidied and the habitat is not replaced. In my backyard they
use the dense tall cyperus, which is not native, to access the bird bath,
but they seem to feed on the ground and up to a couple of metres on any
plants that have insects.
