Subject: Birdline North Queensland Weekly Update
Birdline North Queensland
Published sightings for the week ending 29 Dec 2013.
Sat 28 Dec Yellow-billed Kingfisher Kingfisher Park Birdwatchers Lodge
Bird seen and photographed along Bushy Creek on 28/12/2013, which forms one
boundary of the Lodge. The bird is a female. This represents a considerable
extension to its normal range on Cape York Peninsula which extends south to the
lower reaches of the McIlwraith Range, south east of Coen. There have been
unconfirmed records in past years as far south as Eubenangee Swamp, north of
Innisfail Far North Queensland. (Moderator, Keith Fisher, Note:- I have seen
images, which were taken by one of the guests at the Lodge this afternoon. Two
others also saw this bird. I'll post an image when I get it).

Thu 26 Dec Emu Woodstock 10' Cell
Drove down Quigley Road to see if there was any water. Surprised to see male
Emu with three well developed chicks. Male and one chick outside fence and two
chicks on inside of property fence - mango orchard. Water at end of road. Emus
have been recorded and bred in drought years at a large dam on private property
near Major Creek. This sighting is within 3 kms of that dam.

Wed 25 Dec Eastern Yellow Wagtail Mungalla Station (Forrest Beach,
Queensland)
Eastern Yellow Wagtail with merest hint of yellow belly on mud and azolla at
creek pool this morning. Probably the bird seen previously. Appears to be by
itself. Distant pic
