Crested Shrike-tit, White-naped Honeyeater, Masked Owl Main Range
National Park (Goomburra Section)
Many birds were foraging and coming in to water on the creekline along the
Dalrymple Circuit, near where it joins the Cascade Trail, at about 12pm. Among
these was a single Crested Shrike-tit and a flock of four White-naped
Honeyeaters that included one juvenile, well-fledged but still being fed.
Masked Owl was heard in the same immediate area the previous night.

        Lewin's Rail Gold Creek Reservoir
Anne Finlay and I saw two adults with three fluffy black chicks walking along
creek in same place reported by other's previously around 10am. Anne had been
watching since 8am. A Red-bellied Black Snake appeared about 30 seconds after
the chicks in the creek, possibly the reason that the parents were moving the
chicks?

Mon 23 Dec Oriental Plover Cross Road Dam, Lower Tenthill
Initially, we were unsure what species this bird was, but we took extensive
notes and I managed to get a photo with my phone through my scope. Happy with
the ID after looking at guides when we got back to the car. Notes summary:
upright stance, with a longer, more slender neck than Pacific Golden Plover,
more uniform in colouration than PGP, with a grey throat and upperbreast, white
underparts and vent and light brown wings and back. Pale eyebrow, cheek and
throat with a dark patch over eye that extends towards nape. Wings crossed,
longer than tail. No obvious pale markings on upperwing or rump in flight. The
bird appeared to have an injured or broken leg, it had to hop to move.
Elliot Leach, Chris Burwell
