Fri 13 Sep Turquoise Parrot Lamington National Park Road, Cainbable
A male Turquoise Parrot was seen and photographed feeding on a few metres of roughly mown grass at the rear of our house inside the rainforest on Lamington NP Rd (the road from Canungra to O'Reillys and our house is 10km below O'Reilly's & 26 km from Canungra). I flushed it twice when trying to get photos and it then disappeared and could not be relocated. The bird was not easily approachable and had no leg bands to confirm it was an escapee. My guess would be that it was a wild bird. Glen Threlfo told me this species has not been recorded during any of the O'Relly's bird weeks and to his knowledge has never been recorded in the area. He was stunned when shown the photos as he has never seen the species.
