Tue 24 Sep White-throated Needletail Queensland Brain Institute at UQ, St Lucia, Brisbane, QLD
My brother Christian saw and heard two swifts yesterday flying past the Queensland Brain Institute at UQ, St Lucia, Brisbane, QLD. Unfortunately, he did not have his binoculars or camera with him - as he was attending a scientific conference. So he cannot comment on colours and colour patterns. He compared size and jizz to Alpine Swift (rather than Common Swift) and call to somewhat like Chimney Swift (rather than Common Swift). Christian has spent most of his life in Southern Germany and 5+ years in Boston, MA, USA. Hence the comparison to these species. Based on his description I believe that he saw two early WTNTs. (Mike Tarburton's comment: 'Thank you very much for sharing what looks like the first sighting of a WTNT that I know of for Aussie. There have not been winter reports this season so they could well be migrants. There were some late departures, but nothing since.')
