Channel Billed Cuckoo
Lennons Road Greenbank 4124
We have had the pleasure of a Channel Billed Cuckoo in our yard for more than two months. This bird is being raised by two crows. The same thing happened last year when there were actually two babies.
Unfortunately, the baby cuckoo flew into our glass door doing itself a lot of damage, we thought, as there was blood on the ground. Finally we decided to put it in the tree, not take it to the vet, as not to break the chain of being fed by the crows. To our joy the baby has recovered after being very subdued for a number of days and is now fine. It flies around the trees and screams it's head off, pleading for food while sitting in the middle of the best crop of ficus fruit that we have had for years! What seems like the mother bird has turned up making a different sound to the baby. I believe they will fly away soon. A few years ago we saw the baby bring brought up by a peewee couple. Quite a feat.
