Published sightings for the week ending 17 Feb 2013.

Sun 17 Feb Channel-billed Cuckoo Birdsville, QLD
A single channel-billed cuckoo flew over head, calling, at about 8:30 am this morning. It was headed in a southwesterly direction and presumably in for a long and probably disappointing flight.

Sat 16 Feb White-necked Petrel, Lesser Frigatebird Southport Pelagic
Southport's highlights yesterday were 2 White-necked Petrels, 1 (probably 2) Lesser Frigatebirds (one bird in transitional plumage is still being checked), good numbers of Tahiti Petrel and Great-winged (gouldi) Petrel, Sooty terns and a normal array of commoner species. Paul Walbridge will put a full report up on birding-aus in the next few days.

White Eared Monarch Gold Creek Reservoir
Calling loudly from top of White Beech Tree. Also many Button Quail platelets around in same places that I have often seen Black Breasted Button Quail previously. Lots of trees down at moment makes for some scrambling.

Fri 15 Feb Black Kite Rotary Park Road Wetland, Alberton (Northern Gold Coast)
One Black Kite observed flying over wetland. Unusual species for this area.

An adult over the paddocks north of the swamp

a pair approx mid-point between the 2 bird hides

Sat 9 Feb Pied Oystercatcher Toorbul Wading Bird Roost
at 9am on a very high tide 22 Pied Oystercathchers, 2 Australian Pelicans and 2 Black-winged Stilts

Wed 30 Jan Bulwer's Petrel Oakey (west of Toowoomba)
Exhausted bird found at Oakey Aviation Base and handed over to Murphys Creek wildlife carer Trish LeeHong who contacted Toowoomba Bird Observers club. Photographed and tentatively identified by club Records Officer Pat McConnell and subsequently confirmed by Department of Environment and Heritage Protection staff .
