The premiums are generally on the expensive side for insuring your gear and
personally the only time I would consider taking this out is if I was to travel
in a high risk area like India, Africa or South America where the likelihood of
my stuff getting stolen is a lot more probable.
As a professional, if something happens to my gear, I can write it off on my
business. I replace camera bodies every three years and given the cost of
insurance, I can't see the point. When I did the feasibility of it the premium
was too expensive for the way that I use a camera. I would expect a scope to
last a lot longer than my gear so this could be worth considering.
Still, insurance, like any other personal expenses, should be based on your
habits and how you would use/need it.
