Plains Wanderer
Western Treatment Plant, Werribee, Victoria
A female Plains Wanderer was seen on 29 Mile Road at around 9.30am.
It walked out of the grass on the west side, crossed the road to the east side and then walked along the east side for 2 or 3 minutes. It re-entered the grass when another car drove past. The observers had stopped to look at a Horsfield's Bushlark when the Plains Wanderer appeared.

Possible White Wagtail
Cloudy Bay, Bruny Island, Tasmania
One adult and one immature seen feeding together in fore dunes at Cloudy Bay, Bruny Island around midday (observed at about 10-20 m with Pentax DCF 8x43 binoculars). I am a British ornithologist, and am very familiar with this species. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera. [Ed note: this report need confirmation, with one possibly being White-fronted Chat. TD]

Varied Lorikeet
Alice Springs, northern end of Head Street, Northern Territory
At 6.10 am in the Lemon-scented Gums along the road in front of Braitling School/School of the Air.
6 birds in total. 2 birds started on the power pole across the road and flew to join the others in the trees.

Little Stint
Black Rocks, Barwon Heads , Victoria
Advice received from Clive Minton. Among waders caught during a Victorian Wader Study Group banding session at Black Rocks, Barwon Heads on 22 January 2011 was a first winter Little Stint. Potential twitchers beware that it is virtually impossible to detect this bird in the field unless you can correctly age it as a first winter individual then determine that the primaries are in active moult. First winter Red-necked Stints do not moult their primaries in this season (but adult Red-necked Stints do). This is the 8th Little Stint to be banded by the VWSG

Bourkes Parrot
Stuart Highway approx 90 km south of Kulgera, South Australia
At a rough guess 50 birds but quite likely more coming in to drink in gravel pit from 8.40-9pm. In dim light could make out 30+ birds on ground by water at same time - seen from about 15m away. A fair few others others flying and in vegetation judging by calls.

Australian White Ibis
Airport Swamp, Lord Howe Island, New South Wales
An immature Australian White Ibis seen daily (until 28th) on the small swamp at the end of the airstrip on Lord Howe Island. The only previous record I am aware of at Lord Howe Island is a single in 1991. Also present at the swamp were 19 Mallard, 2 Black duck and 4 White-faced Herons.

Spotted Whistling-Duck
Weipa, Queensland
Today I observed 65+ Spotted Whistling-Duck with 30+ Radjah Shelduck, a few Common Greenshank and Masked Lapwing, 2 Common Sandpiper and a Marsh Sandpiper. Interestingly most of the birds were in the paddock where the old pond used to be which now has a decent puddle courtesy of the rain and a lot of vegetation. A week ago (with 300mm less rain) I counted 75 Spotted Whistling-Duck and 44 Radjah Shelduck in the rain filled sewage pond.
