I'm sure that was meant to be a light-hearted comment, Steve, and not a dig at Chris. It's not his fault he can't reveal the location and offer to show people the bird (and he may yet get that chance). At least he reported it - but he must feel uncomfortable about the circumstances.

I don't think comments like yours make his predicament any easier.

Thanks Chris,

I was wondering how to tackle this inevitable debate. It's not a military area but access to the site is for surveys only at this stage & carry strict regulations. No viewing areas from public roads exist. As one who has gained the trust of the folk who run it, I am not willing to compromise this. At this stage no access will be allowed during the working week. If there is the possibility of getting in later, I will let everyone know when & if I get the go ahead. I don't get pleasure from gripping off others & would love everyone who wants to see this bird have a chance at it. It is a wader tho &
at this time of year anything could happen.

Apologies for the anguish this might cause. I know how I'd feel if it were a Nordmann's Greenshank! I did think twice about reporting it for this reason
but suppressing it wouldn't have been looked kindly upon either.

Cheers,

Chris.

Alex,

My guess is that Chris has been granted permission to access a sensitive area (military perhaps?) that no one else is likely to be granted access to for any reason. Knowing where the bird is would only tempt people to break
in so why give them that temptation?

Regards,
Chris

Hi all,

This morning had a Buff-breasted Sandpiper in Bundaberg (SEQld) for 2.5 hrs with Nev Capell whilst doing a regular count. It was eventually put off by a sea-eagle & has not been seen since. Unfortunately the area has restricted access & the bird will not be twitchable so please don't ask
me for specific site details.

Chris

Ps I have got pictures but contact me if interested rather than send to
