Paul's points, "females seek extra-pair copulations with adjacent males following simulated playback defeats of their putative partner" are valid losses for the individual male but may lead to an advantage for his lady in that she gets a mix of genes for her offspring. She may loose out if they are lesser quality males she visits. His raising another male's young is unlikely to be detremental to the species. I would not have thought of 6 minutes as a short play back period.

Rosemay and some one else remarked that all guides use play back. Yes, if I think really hard I can think of at least three occessions I have used a CD in a parked car.
