Hi All,
An good question re where are all the Swift Parrot in NSW. In sunny Victoria
(actually it's been snowing quite a bit) we've had a reasonable season for
Swift Parrot, particularly central Vic near Castlemaine and Muckleford. Very
few records further north, such as Chiltern and the Warby Ranges. Small numbers
in Melbourne, and also April records around St Arnard & Cape Liptrap in
Gippsland. See below.

40 Swift Parrots (Ross Rd, Muckleford): Up to 40 swift parrots around for Swift
Parrot Count. Swifties were feeding in yellow gum with Dusky Woodswallows.

Swift Parrot (Brisbane Ranges): At least ten Swift Parrots feeding along Reid's
Road in Yellow Gum about 600m from the North-eastern boundary of Brisbane
Ranges National Park.

later.

Swift Parrots (Erin Court, Muckleford) Swift Parrots have now been here for 90
days straight, between 40 to 80 swifties this morning, small groups feeding on
ground and others feeding in River Red Gums and grey box (neither of which are
flowering) wattlebirds and honeyeaters (white naped, yellow faced, fuscous and
whited plumed) very aggressive.

Swift Parrot & Regent Honeyeater (Chiltern - Mt Pilot National Park): 3 Regent
Honeyeater were seen adjacent to Greenhill Road in the northern section of
Chiltern - Mt Pilot NP. (None with leg bands.) Also seen on the White Box
walking track were 4 Turquoise Parrot, 3 Painted Button-quail and at least 6
Swift Parrot.

Swift Parrots (Muckleford): Great morning still 40 to 60 swifties here, 1. They
were having a wash in leaves in tree tops, frost 2. Then into grey box ripping
into bark and chewing on dead branches 3. Then up high in fork of grey box must
have been some water in hollow, taking turns having a drink 4. Then onto the
ground,one group of 20 plus, smaller group of 10ish, digging with feet, also
eating mosses 5. Then across a small path near dam to feed in River Red Gums
with fresh lerps

Swift Parrot (Oxford Street, Newport): Single Swift Parrot seen intermittently
today, yesterday and Friday; seems to like hanging around eucs in park on
corner. Last seen at 4pm flying high southward, calling strongly until gone
from sight.

Swift Parrot (Newcastle St & Oxford St, Newport): One, possibly two Swift
Parrots heard calling as they flew from flowering Mugga Ironbark in park.
Flowering Spotted Gum in park also.

along Oxford St, Newport this afternoon at 3pm.

Swift Parrots (Muckleford): Groups of swifties ranging from 2 to 3 birds up to
20 birds feeding on the ground eating grass and moss. Has anyone else seen
this? They have been feeding on the ground daily for at least three weeks. Have
taken video footage of them.

Swift Parrot (Newport): Single Swift Parrot heard over my house in Newport this
arvo, 1st in the area this year.

Swift Parrot, White-browed Woodswallow (Kooyoora State Park and Kingower State
Forest): Small numbers of Swift Parrots thinly scattered through these parks.
Very late White-browed Woodswallows west of Rheola. All the usual honeyeaters,
lorikeets etc but low numbers and widely dispersed.

Swift Parrot (Castlemaine Golf Course): A group of about 15 swifties landed in
front of me to have their morning bath in a puddle.(Sunday) Swift Parrots are
still around, appox 40 to 50 birds this morning (Tuesday).

Swift Parrots (Castlemaine Golf Course): Have been hearing swifties since March
but yesterday and today there were 20 to 30 swifties feeding up high in yellow
gum and grey box. Birds with them were Wattlebirds aggressive, White-plumed,
White-naped, Yellow-faced, Yellow-tufted, New Holland Honeyeaters also
Purple-crowned Lorikeets

Swift Parrot (St. Arnaud Area): Up to ten Swift Parrots at Tottington NCR, 23
km SW of St. Arnaud amongst Musk, Purple-crowned and Little Lorikeets. Good
numbers of Black-chinned Honeyeater and White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike. Thirty
plus Swift Parrots in a noisy flock at Dalyenong NCR, 25 km SE of St. Arnaud.
Very few Robins.

Swift Parrot, Beautiful Firetail (Cape Liptrap): Flame Robins and an
Intermediate Egret in off the sea at Cape Liptrap; 12 Swift Parrots flying
north over Cape Liptrap / Walkerville heathland, where Beautiful Firetails,
Southern Emu-Wrens and Olive Whistlers were common. Also 4300 Black Swans on
Shallow Inlet.
