Hi Chris and b-aussers
Superb Fairy Wrens are quite common around Brisbane suburban areas. We
used to see them regularly around the Southbank area and we have them in our
backyard in the Nundah/Wavell Heights area. Swans are breeding in a number
of areas close to Brisbane following further good rainfall in early June.
The site you mention near Gattonsounds like Jahnke's Lagoon which is in Lake
Clarenden Road just off the Gatton/Esk Road. It was dry for several years
until earlier this year. Same story for Seven Mile and Atkinsons Dam.
Banded Lapwings are becoming much more common in the area west of Brisbane.
Last October there was a group of 33 in Haslingden Rd near Lake Atkinson.
About half were Juveniles. They are also around in the Jimboomba/Beaudesert
area.
Hope that you are enjoying your visit back to OZ.
Cheers
Roy Sonnenburg
