Fantastic Scenery, but if David is wanting to make it a birding
expedition, too, then Tassie High Country is not going to 'deliver
the goods' (or at least not many). I could point you to lots of more
productive places, but perhaps not as spectacular for a 'rite of
passage' walk.

What time of year are you talking about? If you go at the right
time, the scoparia will be flowering [very colourful], the
nothofagus will be golden [very alpine] or the peaks will be
covered in snow [very pretty].

Dear fellows birders,
next year two of my friends want us to walk the overland track in
Tasmania (Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair) for one of those
milestone birthdays (40). I think it is a great idea but I can't
seem to convince them to go to Broome and the kimberley instead.
They are not birders and the Broome Bird Observatory means nothing
to them. I like Tasmania but I was wondering: can anyone tell me
if there is good birding on this track? I have walked it before
and it was a lovely walk but not as 'birdy' as I had hoped.
Perhaps I was not paying enough attention? It was twelve years
ago. I remember mud and rain and little delicate mosses,
toadstools, some rain, sassafras, wombats and wallabies and iron
bark flowers on the path.

PS I can't convince them to do the South Coast Track - already asked.
