Hi Birders,
Arwen Ximedes asks about the distribution in NSW of the above two birds.
In NSW the Striped Honeyeater, White-breasted Woodswallow and Pied
Butcherbird, all have a distribution that includes inland NSW, and along the
Coast extending as far south as the Hawkesbury River, and then the
distribution avoids the Hawkesbury sandstone Region, by extending west up
the Hunter Valley and then southwards but keeping west of the sandstone
regions of the Great Divide. In more recent times, the White-breasted
Woodswallow has extended its range to include some coastal areas south of
the Hawkesbury River (viz Pittwater, Hawkesbury Marshes and some Illawarra
and South Coast coastal areas), while the Pied Butcherbird may penetrate
into the South Coast via the Bega Valley. Pied Butcherbirds occur around
Port Stephens and are not unsual.
Great Knots like most migratory waders, migrate up and down the NSW Coast
and can be expected to occur in Port Stephens. They are however more regular
at the Clarence, Hunter and Shoalhaven estuaries.
