I had a clear view of the psychological impact of dogs on shorebirds yesterday.

I was photographing waders on a beach at Thornside where waders collect on a 3/4 tide. A young woman was walking a three-legged dog on a tight leash up to the water's edge. The dog wasn't barking or carrying on, but it cleared out all the waders within a 100 metre radius as it hobbled along.

It appears that dogs [even lame/quiet ones] are scarier than humans as far as shorebirds are concerned.

Regards, Laurie

Sigh. Well, that's not going to happen. Pragmatically, people have
dogs and dogs need exercise. If you've ever lived with or cared for a
dog, you'll know that a run on the beach is about the best thing that
can happen for a dog. Here's what I hope for (and see some of)
