They have not been reported as yet. Like the elusive Yellow Wattlebird I would
like more proof and more substantial sightings pictures ect. I think they may
have come from further West during the drought the same as our Galah and
Cockatoo population increased!!!! I need a better telephoto lens as I can?t get
very close and they seem to prefer to stay mainly in the dark shadows and also
Like Finches they do not stand still long if at all.
For those interested, as far as I know the Yellow Wattle birds are still around.
Due to a virus that make you feel like a rag doll with no stuffing I have been
unable to check on their locations. Steve Woodhall of the NSW National Parks and
Wildlife is working with work for the dole people upgrading and repairing
walking trails on Mt. Canobolas. Hopefully he may come across the Wattlebirds.
They do not seem to stay in one spot very long.
Can one of our Tasmanian birders tell me if this behaviour is normal please?

There are up to about a dozen Orange Chats come into my yard at irregular times.
I have only seen them twice in the last fortnight. I see them more often in
Spring time as they love the ripe fruit and seeds from the Strawberry Tree.
(Strawberry like fruit) I have tried to find their home base with no success so
far. There seems to be about 10 dusky females to 2 of the brighter males. I see
the males a lot less and have only seen the two males together only twice.

With the usual sparrows, blackbirds (not as many around this summer) and
starlings we have irregular visitations of Silvereyes, Orange Chats and about
four Redbrowed Finches. The last three not being regular visitors do not get to
close. The dogs and cats still do not make any attempt at chase or capture.
