The discussion on potential predation by Magpies reminded me of something
that I have observed a number of times over the years and wondered if others
have observed the same. I have seen Magpies strongly chase Richard's
(Australian) Pipits on the wing and chase them out of an area. I suspect
that it is more a case of removing a potential food competitor than an
attempt at predation. I have never seen a Magpie make contact with or catch
a Pipit.
