Stay on paved road is the best advice in a leach area. At Kao Yai, in
Thailand, I stood still for a moment on a boardwalk, and could see
literally hundred of leaches heading towards me. Both I am my wife got well
leached. In fact the local shops sold tea shirts advertising them as the
most commonly see animal.
On the eastern border, we stayed on roads, on the other hand, we did not
birding from the road and the only leach either of us picked up was one I
got when I stood on soil for for under a minute.
They will climb over socks, think Rid is an appetiser, and I would back the
Asian leaches against the armour of an Abraham tank.

Marj and I are heading off to peninsular Malaysia for some birding (Taman
Negara, Fraser's Hill, Kuala Selangor). We would like to buy some
leech-proof socks before departure. Can anyone advise where to purchase them
in Australia? Alternatively, can they be bought at Taman Negara?
