Ellen McCulloch, sadly missed, did a study of Silky Oaks with the Society
for Growing Australian Plants. Her results were published in the Bird
Observer about 3 years ago.
My own records of birds definitely feeding on or around the flowers clude Rainbow and Purple-crowed Lorikeets, 4 species of honeyeater, House Sparrows, Starlings and Mynas. I'm sure there were many more in Ellen's list. I just checked my flying-fox records and was surprised I had no record of them in Grevillea robusta. Perhaps that is because around here they have plentiful supplies of eucalypt flowers and Moreton Bay figs.
