Peter,

While some of our wattles (Acacias) were undoubtedly used for wattle and daub building the prefered plant was Callicoma serratifolia, Black Wattle, of the family Cunnoniaceae.

It is not just in the birding world that names can be misleading. Nor is it just common names. There are many scientific binomials that are poorly chosen or misleading as well as a few that are wrong.

Regards,
Alan
