As a beginner I'm starting to realise just how many birds I didn't realise
were different species, and how many I thought were called something else.
I've always called wattlebirds honeyeaters. Is that strictly incorrect?
My book says red wattlebirds have a red wattle on their neck. What exactly
is this wattle?
Yellow wattlebirds have a yellow wattle, but I can't find anything about
little wattlebirds having them. Do they?
I had always assumed that wattlebirds were called that because they were
often found in wattle trees. Does the "wattle" only refer to the thing on
their neck, or does it also mean the trees?
I'll be in Hobart this weekend, staying in the CBD. Am I likely to see a
yellow wattlebird witin walking distance of there?
My book is Simpson & Day, 3rd edition. Good book? Should I replace or
update it?
