Black Kites are not often seen around the built-up part of Geelong,
although they are regularly recorded at the Western Treatment Plant a
little to the north.
There was a single Black Kite sparring with a Magpie-Lark near the clock
tower at Geelong Grammar School this afternoon - this was my first record
for the campus, and there have been very few others.
This was a nice bird to see - particularly because it was first pointed
out by Stephen Garnett, who was a guest of the school today for a memorial
concert on behalf of his late father, Tom, an enthusiastic ornithologist
and Headmaster of the school 1962-73.
