What we need is responsible cat owners. Owners that have their cat desexed. Keep their cat locked away at night. Keep the food bowl full so it has less reason to wander. And train the cat not to catch birds. A water bottle works wonders. I am on my third female cat that is governed by these rules. When the cat is lying on the tankstand the birds land near her and all the cat does is look up as if saying "Did you have to wake me!!" then goes back to sleep. I have never had to buy a mouse trap.
