Mike,
         Try 
          Ian Hutton found them in a swamp at base of Mt. Lidgebird in 1980,
says it was first recorded in 1898 and a speciman given to Australian
Museum, chicks found 1903. Probably spread with habitat change from human
settlement and elimination of cats. Islanders clainmed that it was
introduced as a pet(?) but is widespread on suitable offshore islets.
