There some areas where 'right-of-way' is sort of present. I often do trips into the mallee country here in SA and through many sheep properties where the public dirt tracks pass right through. I know a few of the farm managers through the area and they dont have any problem with people in the area as long as they do the right thing and technically you dont have to ask to camp either, but of course it pays too.
