Further to my original posting about Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos being reported in the Sydney Morning Herald's Column 8.  In today's Column 8 is this follow-up:
"The sightings of flocks of yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Column 8, Friday) flood in from all over the eastern suburbs. Two things stand out - their haunting cry and their liking for pine cones and other tree "fruit'. One bird book we consulted says the cry is weird, far-carrying, squealing; much conversational chuckling and 'giggling' from flocks in flight. Why do they seem to have congregated in the east? "They have lost their beautiful trees, decimated by greedy developers and councils," writes Mary Herbert, of Kellyville. We add, also trees and food sources lost in the bushfires of last summer."

I assume a few of you took the opportunity to point out that this was not that unusual.  My understanding, however, (and not really reflected in the above) is that there is a largely "resident" population around the airport and eastern suburbs.

Cheers
