Hi David,
you are quite right about an eastern suburbs / Kingsford-Smith
Airport / Centennial Park population. I don't know whether the
numbers change seasonally and it would be interesting to know.
Certainly there appear to be birds in the area throughout the year
and intuitively I believe that their numbers increase during the
cooler months.
Similarly there is at least one resident population in Sydney's
northern suburbs and again I suspect that these birds are probably
augmented in number, seasonally. I see or hear them most days in the
Lane Cove, Chatswood, Roseville area, probably less often in summer,
but they are still present.
Having just made this outrageous statement I decided to double check
my records.
It is possible that the northern suburbs birds go missing in January
but then as a general rule so do I, so it maybe that I'm not around
to record them.
I should add that Y-TB-Cs are found throughout the northern Sydney
suburbs, not just in my local area.
Can anyone add to my comments re their seasonality in Sydney?
Andy
I assume a few of you took the opportunity to point out that this
was not that unusual. My understanding, however, (and not really
reflected in the above) is that there is a largely "resident"
population around the airport and eastern suburbs.
