Question on birdbaths from a grazier

G'day Doug Holly, Judy Frankenberg, Hilary Richrod and All,

I was thinking that the prime fault was the tank edge? it doesn't have a grip surface area right? very very slippery when wet right? this is the prime factor in the bird drownings? not that hard to change the surface with modern day products? change the leading edge surface area by using a product that sets rock hard and is squeezed from a chaulking gun? total cost less then 30 Oz dollars.

I suggest fixing plastic or galvanised mesh ( 20 to 40mm, in size) along the edges, to hang just below the water level. If this is left hanging, and only fixed at the top, any large animal that falls in should not dislodge it and the birds should be able to climb out.
