Apparently it's not just disaffected deer hunters...I mentioned the threat
to release stoats (referred to at the end of the Catalyst program) to the NZ
Police liaison officer here in Canberra. He is also aware that radical Green
groups have made threats to wipe out threatened wildlife (such as the
Kakapo) to bring attention to their causes. It seems that these groups do
not believe that that the NZ government is taking green issues seriously
enough.
Let's just hope that whoever made the threats, they remain just that!

revenge against plans by Dept of Conservation and Forest and Bird NZ to
eliminate introduced deer from sensitive areas. A claim that possums have
already been released on Kapiti island is supected to be a hoax but is being
investigated.
