I asked a friend of mine who works at Cumberland what he knew, to which he
replied,
"Crested Hawk are often observed in Cumberland and there have been young
present during some summers. It is unknown where the adults nest although I
think I have seen an old nest. They become much more obvious during spring
when they call frequently."
On a further note, it is sad to see that the bird diversity in Cumberland SF
isn't what it used to be (makes me sound old). Cumberland was once one of
the best spots within the urban area of Sydney for bird watching, but now it
is very ordinary. I assume that this is due to the fact that much of the
bushland that once surrounded the forest has been cleared for housing.
On a positive note, the Powerful owl is still occasionally seen in the
forest, as is a Koala of unknown origin (possibly something to do with the
nearby Koala Park)
