After a lot of years birding by call I still can't separate these two when
they are doing the alarm/grating call. I am dubious of those who say they
can, (but that says more about me than anything else). Whenever I hear the
grating call and need to know which it is, I give a squeek and watch / wait
for the reply. Fortunately, w-b scrubwrens can't help themselves and almost
invariably give the game away.

Its a pity these two bird are so often found together.
