Hi John,
Thanks for that message and sorry to hear this. For about 16 years, I have had a boomerang that he made, sitting over my bedroom door, so I have a daily reminder of him (though of course, mostly it is just there, not noticed). Although at one stage he told me he would prefer it to be used, rather than be just a trophy. He made this as a prize (that I won) for a feather identification contest that he ran at the BOCA easter camp at Balranald in I think 1984.  I had met him the first time on a trip with Richard Loyn to Finley in January 1974 (when I was 17). He took us on a little boat into the Barmah wetlands. It was a wonderful day. From what little I knew of him, he was a kind, interesting, knowledgable and generous man. I have met him again at various times on BOCA trips, since then.

A short note to say that well known Barham birding identity, Peter Disher,  passed away yesterday one day short of his 81st birthday.  Just recently in conjunction with the Barham Landcare Group he published Birds of the Barham District detailing observations over the last 70 years.  No doubt some people on this list have come across Peter out there in the field.

I personally have spent a lot of time with him in the field over the last 3-4 years and have gained much form his wealth of knowledge.  He will be sadly missed.
