Hi all,
I just had 4 days on Fraser Is.
Always terrific birding....nothing really special
but for some reason
this Grey Falcon thread got me
thinking.
Why are there so many rare or difficult grey
named birds?I don't mean Grey-headed etc but straight out
'grey'.
Grey Falcon....only exists in books
Grey Honeyeater...ditto
Grey Ternlet...common at Norfolk but rare here
(I've seen and photographed it at Lady Elliott Is)
Grey Grasswren....only in the book
Grey Petrel....seen one off Eaglehawk
Neck,Tassie
Grey Phalarope.....no way.Bill Jolly has a photo in
his lodge....but it's from the UK I think.
Grey Wagtail....you've got to be
kidding!
Grey Plover...yes,they're around but not common up
here in Bundy anyway
I could only think of...Grey Currawong,Teal,Fantail
and Shrike-thrush as common.
With JAG in self imposed exile,I thought this piece
of holiday-induced trivia might pose some theories.
