Dear All

Mainly for Melbourne - please forgive:

Ricketts Point, Beaumaris, Melbourne (p88 C9) is under threat
from the Victorian government's intention NOT to declare the
recommended marine sanctuary.

PLEASE COME ON TUESDAY TO SUPPORT BAYSIDE COUNCIL AND ALL WHO
WANT THE SANCTUARY. MEET NEAR THE TEA HOUSE BEFORE 10AM. We
need lots of people so if you can't come, please if possible get
someone else to turn up. It's World Environment Day.

The bird list for the area since 1990 includes over 150 species
including Native-hen !, Sea eagle (perched), at least 14
waders...It is 15 years since it was recommended to be a nature
sanctuary purely for the bird values.

The Environment Conservation Council gave in to anglers by
moving the boundary of the marine sanctuary towards the land so
it now coincides with the boating markers. This is an
inter-tidal and near shore sanctuary and it is POLITICAL
NONSENSE of our Environment Minister, Mrs Garbutt, to say
rejecting the sanctuary is to meet recreational fishing demands,
other than by a handful of anglers.

No sanctuary will mean no enforcement of shell fish etc
regulations and the whole place going to the dogs with less
protection for the bush vegetation as well.

It would be great if you could e-mail your personal protest to
Mrs Garbutt at
With a copy to the opposition environment spokesperson:
